Skills Mapping

Having designed a new organisational Target Operating Model for our client, they then needed to gain a greater understanding of the skills landscape within their business. With an initial project focused on their technology team, followed by another focusing on their operational team, their intent was to improve their people performance and achieve their growth plans.

Process

We worked closely with the HR team to identify the core skills (Skills Mapping) and competencies requiring assessment. These were to identify the business super-stars, those that were promotion ready, those who posed a flight risk and others needing support. We used a streamlined 5 level version of the global skills and competency framework for the digital world (SFIA) as our benchmark. We were able to benchmark employees through conversations with their managers and team leaders.

Solution

Employee assessments were delivered in an easy-to-understand graphical dashboard. Our report shared our observations and the themes that came through our interviews with recommendations to address challenges and invest in human capital. We provided a set of Minimum Viable Initiatives © MVI’s to help the business to address the challenges. We also delivered a portfolio of editable people resources to facilitate meaningful conversations about employee progression and performance alongside a framework for progression.

Outcome

The data we provided continues to inform hiring and training decisions and has enabled our client to get ahead of capability gaps and mitigate potential single points of failure. It has also helped them to create an environment in which there are clear paths for progression. Opportunities for colleagues to be stretched through gaining new skills and experiences have been created as had a culture where they can thrive. Our client now has a people strategy that is robust and fit for the future and guidance to develop a meaningful employee value proposition.
